Advancement to Candidacy
Students should see the Graduate Advisor to formulate a graduate program of study and file for Advancement to Candidacy after completing at least 12 units of graduate coursework. To advance, you must have:
- Attained an overall GPA of 3.0
- Completed at least 12 units applicable to the degree with a GPA of at least 3.0
- Fulfilled the Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR).
To apply, complete the form below and email it to your Graduate Advisor for approval.
Change of Program
If you would like to request any changes to course or exit requirements in your degree program, you will need to complete and submit a Change of Program form to your graduate advisor. For example, if you would like to take a completely different course than what you had originally planned toward your degree, such as changing a capstone or elective course, you will need to submit a Change of Program form. Change of Program requests are only allowed after you have been advanced to candidacy. Note that taking a course in a different semester does not require a Change of Program form.

Graduate Studies 700 (GS 700)
GS 700 is used by students who need additional time to complete their thesis or comprehensive exams. In general, GS 700 will not be approved for more than two semesters. Although it is a zero-unit course, the fee is based on one unit of credit for payment purposes; no unit credit is added to the student鈥檚 program or transcript.
For Winter and Summer sessions, enrollment in GS 700 is required only if the student plans to graduate during that particular term. If a student wishes to take the Fall or Spring semester off before resuming coursework, she or he must request a Planned Educational Leave, not GS 700. The purpose of this restriction is to keep students on track to completion within the required seven-year period.
Students who need to enroll in GS 700 must maintain good standing in their graduate program by demonstrating satisfactory progress towards the completion of a thesis, project, or comprehensive exams. Students must have advanced to candidacy before requesting to enroll in GS 700.
If you need to enroll in GS 700, please contact your graduate advisor in person or via email to discuss why you are requesting to enroll in the class and for the GS 700 Enrollment Approval form. There are two GS 700 Enrollment Approval forms: 1) the Thesis/Project Option or 2) the Comprehensive Exam Option. If you are eligible, your advisor will give you the form based on your program track.
Students should carefully follow the instructions on the GS-700 Enrollment Approval Forms, such as attaching a work plan or timeline, before requesting approval signatures. Once approval signatures are obtained from the thesis advisor (if on thesis track), graduate advisor, and the department chair, the student will need to submit the form to the Assistant to the Dean (ECS-616) for approval from the COE Coordinator of Graduate Programs.
The department will notify the student via email if the GS 700 Enrollment Approval request is approved by the COE Coordinator of Graduate Programs. If the request is approved before the Self-Service Registration deadline, the student may enroll into the class online via My新澳门六合彩资料 by searching "Graduate Studies 700." If the request is approved after the deadline, the student will need register in person by filling out the GS 700 Permission Slip and submitting it to the CCPE Student Services Center, located on the first floor at the west end of the Foundation Building. The deadline for graduate students to register for GS 700 is at the end of the add鈥恉rop period of the semester.
